Backyard Buffs’ Goals for Summer 2021

After a bummer of a summer in 2020, we thought it would be appropriate to put out some lofty goals of fun things to do in 2021! We may not get remotely close to accomplishing all of them but one thing is for sure… we are going to enjoy playing games and exploring the beautiful world around us.

Summer 2021 has to be BIG to make up for the somewhat underwhelming turnout of covid 2020. The past is the past and we were all doing our part to stay safe and healthy, so now we’re ready to take summer 2021 by storm (well, hopefully there aren’t any actual storms).

For those of you that follow along on our other social media outlets you may have seen some of our recent posts and stories about some of the activities and games that we are planning to do this summer. Our goal is to play at least 5 new outdoor and indoor games and go on an adventure weekly! We hope that through this challenge that we can introduce the world to more fun games and inspire you to get out and explore the beauty in your own backyard.

For those of you who are new to our blog, we are based out of Utah. Utah is home to 5 National Parks. Another goal this summer is to visit all of the National Parks in Utah and at least 2 other National Parks outside of Utah. Along the way, we hope to fill your social media feeds and inboxes with some of the most breathtaking scenery that this world has to offer.

Our mission: to inspire others to be active and see the world around them. While our connection with you may be through a screen, we hope that you find happiness and release from taking time away from your screen. 2020 was a rough year for mental health and we were not immune to the many difficulties that the pandemic brought with isolation and nowhere to go. We are both social people, so it was hard for us to not pander our desires to spend time with friends and travel. In reality, this challenge is more of an attempt to recover from the mental scars left in the wake of 2020.

We understand that while we, the Backyard Buffs, may not suffer from any chronic mental struggles, we have felt the strain of the isolation and the anxiety caused by the uncertainty of the future. While not all of our personal and societal issues will be solved overnight, we know that there is something empowering and healing about challenging yourself to something and working towards it. It doesn’t have to be anything grand or far-fetched, but rather something that instills confidence and raises self-esteem. Both of which are still on the mend for many of us. Our hope in raising self-esteem and confidence is to then help us be even more equipped to be the good in the world and spread positivity.

Unfortunately, there is quite the shortage of positivity in the world, but rising to the challenge is our first step in making the world a better place. We started this blog in the hopes of reviewing backyard games and sharing our passion for outdoor activities, but it has evolved into so much more. While we hope to continue reviewing games and DIY-ing, we can’t help but embrace the opportunity to use our platform to spread positivity and make a difference in the world. We know that this starts with stepping away from the screen, taking in the world around us, and growing through making the most of the time we have in life. BRB, out doing, playing, and seeing what’s in our own backyard. Stay tuned for the comeback summer of the century!
